Overview
Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist - Stroke. Join to apply for the Band 6 SLT - Stroke role at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. This post is an excellent opportunity for an SLT who is passionate about stroke care and wanting to develop their skills within the Stroke Team.
The Stroke Team provide input to the hyper acute stroke unit, Acute stroke unit and in-patient stroke rehabilitation, and also support in the community with the Early Supported Stroke Discharge team and other MDT professionals in community settings. There are opportunities for group work and the use of digital technology to support patient care as appropriate. The team is small, with regular supervision, training and development opportunities and a united team approach.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist assessment, management and treatment to patients with swallowing and/or communication problems within the stroke service (Acute inpatients, Early Supported Stroke discharge team and general stroke community patients).
* Be responsible for a specialist Speech and Language Therapy stroke caseload across North Cumbria as part of the wider community SLT team.
* Participate in the development and delivery of training and information packages for a wide range of professionals and carers in the area of stroke.
* Contribute to and lead on service audits, quality improvement projects and service redesign (where appropriate).
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary framework to achieve integrated care for patients.
* Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face to face and via video.
* Write high quality patient reports, including discharge reports for inpatients and community patients.
* Support clinical education and student placements.
* Cover other areas within the wider SLT as required.
Qualifications and requirements
* Specialist SLT with experience in stroke care and ability to manage a stroke caseload across Acute, Early Supported Discharge and community settings.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary framework and deliver training to professionals and carers.
* Commitment to supervision, training and development within a small team.
