Senior Backend Developer – Websites & Apps at Twilo Creative (Leeds, Hybrid).
Twilo Creative is a multi-award-winning agency with a decade of experience in delivering high-performing websites and digital marketing campaigns. We are looking for a Senior Back-End Developer to support Twilo and its clients in delivering robust, scalable, and high-performing digital solutions. The role requires a strong focus on coding standards, efficiency, and productive delivery within a collaborative team.
Responsibilities
* Design and implement back-end systems using PHP, SQL, and optionally JavaScript to support Twilo’s websites and digital products (including WordPress and e-commerce platforms).
* Develop and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing back-end architectures and APIs (e.g., REST) using Laravel or other MVC frameworks.
* Build and optimise database structures and queries to ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and management (SQL-based).
* Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that adheres to coding standards; participate in code reviews.
* Implement unit tests and integration tests to ensure reliability and performance.
* Monitor and optimise server-side performance and configuration to reduce latency and improve scalability.
* Ensure security best practices and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR) in back-end systems.
* Collaborate with front-end developers, designers, and marketers to integrate back-end systems with user-facing components.
* Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to keep Twilo’s tech stack modern and efficient.
Projects & Tools
* Use project management practices to plan development timelines, provide time estimates, and keep stakeholders updated.
* Tools and frameworks include Laravel (or other MVC frameworks), PHPMyAdmin, WHM/cPanel, VSCode, Sublime, FTP, and related deployment tools.
* Contribute to knowledge sharing and code reviews to maintain high standards.
* Hybrid working model: 2-3 office days per week in Leeds.

Requirements
* Minimum 5 years of experience in back-end development.
* Proficiency in PHP, SQL, and ideally JavaScript; expertise in Laravel and MVC frameworks.
* Experience with WordPress and e-commerce platforms is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of API design (REST) and database design/optimisation.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced agency setting and deliver high-quality code.
