The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) is a specialist capability within the ambulance service, providing paramedic-level care in hazardous situations to increase patient survival chances. These include large-scale major incidents and routine incidents such as working at height, in water, or in difficult access areas. HART Paramedics undergo extensive training in specialist capabilities, safe systems of work, and proficiency in using a wide range of protective clothing and incident management equipment.
As a HART Paramedic, you will:
Respond to complex and possibly protracted incidents, delivering paramedic interventions across key HART capability areas:
* Hazardous Materials incidents
* Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) emergencies
* Marauding Terrorist Attacks
* Safe Working at Height
* Confined Space
* Unstable Terrain
* Water Operations
* Support to Security Operations
SCAS HART is based in Eastleigh, near Southampton, Hampshire.

The process once you apply includes:
* Application shortlisting
* HART physical competency assessment testing
* SCAS HART swim test
* Confidence tests for safe working at height and confined space, plus a clinical OSCE
* Respiratory mask fit testing
* HART interview (on separate days from physical assessments)
* Additional internal trust requirements, including occupational health screening
The dates for assessment and interviews will be confirmed. Please note there are no alternative dates.
Candidates should attend assessment days in uniform with appropriate boots, running shoes, swimming costumes, and goggles, as swimming assessments may occur.
Only successful candidates in all assessment elements will attend the interview, and results will be notified on the same day.
