Responsibilities
* Work within the Endoscopy Day Case Unit of Gastroenterology.
* Provide patient care, addressing social, psychological and physical needs within high quality standards.
* Assist with endoscopic and clinical procedures and re‑processing of equipment in line with the British Gastroenterology Society.
* Collaborate with team members to meet patient and family needs.
* Maintain strict infection control standards and support nursing staff in patient care.
* Work under supervision of a qualified nurse in endoscopy rooms.
* Support tissue sampling (biopsy) and complete paperwork accurately once trained.
* Prepare endoscopic equipment before procedures.
* Perform cannulation and venepuncture as required to improve patient pathway.
* Prepare endoscopic accessories such as dilation balloons and inflation devices.
* Undertake other endoscopy assistant tasks under supervision until assessed and competent.
* Work in the recovery area to observe patient vitals and assist during recovery to discharge.
* Know personal limitations and report lack of knowledge or training to the Senior Nurse Educator/Trainer.
* Assist in decontaminating endoscopy equipment in the re‑processing area to standard.
* Produce a Progression Portfolio at the end of training for each unit.
* Keep up to date with unit policies and procedures; attend meetings and teaching sessions.
* Attend all in‑house Trust and gastroenterology training courses and meetings as required.
* Maintain infection‑control practices to avoid harm to patients, carers or staff.
* Work within Trust policies and procedures.
* Maintain good verbal and written communication.
* Complete mandatory training and documentation to required standard.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* Previous experience in an NHS healthcare setting.
* Awareness of Health and Safety and Security procedures and policies.
Desirable Criteria
* Completed NHS Decontamination Training Programme.
* Demonstrated IPC knowledge.
* Ability to develop effective relationships at all levels with clients, colleagues and the public.
* Effective communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to maintain documentation to required standard.
* Ability to prioritise own workload.
* Ability to recognise hazards.
* Ability to maintain equipment and basic stock usage and control procedures.

We are currently recruiting B3 Clinical Support Workers who are committed to delivering excellent patient care.
Experience is preferable but not essential as intensive training will be given and you will have the opportunity to develop your personal skills.
