To work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and Community Dental Services (CDS) including Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required.
Dental Nurses will be provided with a base clinic/department when appointed but will be expected to work flexibly across different sites where dental treatment is provided.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
* Providing chair side assistance to clinicians within the dental service plus arranging/supporting a clinician with any necessary domiciliary visits or visits to external sites.
* Assisting in screening, epidemiology, and research programmes.
* Carrying out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.
* Maintaining a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
* Providing comprehensive chair side and administrative support to a clinician within all clinical sites across Dental services.
* Preparing and monitoring patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post operative instructions as required.
* Undertaking the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arranging any necessary repairs as required.
* Ensuring medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
* Providing chair side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
* Providing oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
* Assisting the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.
* Supporting and assisting clinicians including all student disciplines.
* Supporting and supervising all apprentice nurses, undergraduate groups.
