Overview
We are looking for a Transport Team Manager to join our team in Rugby. As a Transport Team Manager you will manage the day to day operations of the Central Transport Team and identify operational efficiencies within the department and the wider Sainsbury’s Transport network in order to optimise performance and revenue. The role holder will be responsible for the management of their team to ensure delivery of the best possible service to our stores, depots and external customers in line with our service level agreements. along with the management and development of the Central Transport Team colleagues.
Hours are 37 per week and any 5 from 7 shift.
How will you contribute?
1. Take ownership to ensure that the daily transport plans are delivered, sourcing transport solutions from depots and third parties to ensure a high standard of service.
2. Allocate workload within the department to ensure we meet our service level agreements and reports are issued on time and to a high standard.
3. Responsible for providing detailed updates and handovers to senior management team on a daily basis
4. Ensure financial summary reconciliation and reporting tasks are completed accurately to required deadlines.
5. Accountable for the delivery of the backhaul plan, ensuring backhaul and depot transport plans are executed accurately by the daily deadline.
6. Lead the team during a shift, proactively supporting and coaching the colleagues to be accountable for problem resolution. Ensure all work is completed accurately and to the required deadlines.
7. Deputise for the Central Transport Operations Manager as required.
8. Negotiate rates with hauliers for ad-hoc haulage requests
9. Accountable to ensuring the accurate and timely completion and communication of weekly and periodic financial reporting.
10. Monitor haulier and depot performance and proactively challenge when inadequate, dealing directly with transport providers and escalating as required.
11. Influence and manage expectations of depots, suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure a high service levels.
12. Identify and implement operational efficiencies within the department and the wider Sainsbury’s transport network to optimise performance and revenue creation.

What will you bring?
15. Excellent attention to detail with good reporting and analytical skills.
16. Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on service and customer and the ability to influence effectively at all levels.
17. Minimum of intermediate capability with Microsoft packages particularly Excel.
18. Line management experience with ability to lead and coach direct reports
19. Good understanding of warehousing and/or transport operations
20. Process driven with good organisational and communication skills
21. Excellent problem-solving skills with a solution driven mindset
22. Self-motivated self-starter with the ability to make decisions at pace.
23. Proactively communicate effectively with the team as well as with internal and external stakeholders to build high functioning working relationships.
24. Continually evaluate processes to identify opportunities to drive efficiencies.
25. Engage and influence at all levels to challenge and manage expectations where appropriate to provide great service
26. Confidence to make operational decisions that impact on performance and service level agreements to ensure we deliver an efficient transport solution
27. Develop ideas and implement change to reduce cost and improve service
