Intelligent Building Systems Manager

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) is recruiting an IB Systems Manager for the London headquarters in Canary Wharf. The role aligns with the major refurbishment currently under construction and will go live in Q1 2026.


Purpose of the role

To manage the Intelligent Building (IB) systems and other control & monitoring systems, acting as the single point of contact for client IB systems and providing first‑line support for system and network faults. The candidate will train on the systems, support commissioning, create operational processes, and review project documentation.


Key Tasks

* Maintain building systems and associated components in excellent working repair.
* Own the systems, understand their network configurations, and handle first‑line response to issues.
* Understand cloud environments for IB systems, configurations, and dashboards; resolve issues as first‑line responder.
* Plan maintenance activities, manage suppliers, and oversee maintenance contracts.
* Conduct routine tests, checks, and record keeping using traditional methods and building analytics.
* Manage change requests related to operation and maintenance of the systems.
* Coach staff on incident management, escalation, and operation of building plant and systems.
* Shadow commissioning activities and collaborate with the Smart Building contractor.
* Monitor environmental conditions to maintain comfortable workplace standards.
* Coordinate with the client’s Technology organization to address FM Technology issues.
* Support the implementation of systems and policies with the FM Operations team.
* Provide guidance and technical solutions for team initiatives, ensuring compliance with standards.
* Assist in operating budget development.
* Assist in project plans for team initiatives.
* Support business development: client solicitation, proposal development, and presentation.
* Stay current with emerging technologies and propose solutions for operational efficiencies.


Management Responsibilities

* Supervise staff within the functional area.
* Recommend recruitment, promotion, and corrective actions.
* Plan staffing levels, manage overtime, and conduct performance appraisals.
* Mentor and coach team members; lead by example and embody company values.


Education

* STEM degree with preference for Information Systems (hardware/software).


Skills

* Strong PC skills, MS Office.
* Knowledge of modern building systems (BMS, EMS, PMS, lighting control, SCADA).
* Experience with IP networks, networking concepts, and systems convergence.
* Technical integration – how systems operate together.
* Self‑motivated and resourceful.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organisational and analytical skills.
* Customer‑service orientation, efficient, reliable, courteous.
* Effective presentation skills.
* Ability to respond to sensitive issues.


Knowledge

* Familiarity with Modbus, BACnet, IP, MQTT (desirable) diagnostic tools.
* Multi‑discipline experience and understanding of building systems convergence, IoT, smart buildings.
* Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, NTP.
* Knowledge of Connected Workplace and Space Optimization.


Experience

* Customer service experience and communication at all levels.
* Experience in mission‑critical or industrial automation industry.
* Familiarity with IT/OT network configuration and troubleshooting (Modbus, BACnet).
* Familiarity with critical IT equipment (servers, workstations, switches, routers, firewalls, cabling).
* Experience administering Microsoft Windows Servers, Hyper‑V, SQL Server, and security best practices.


Aptitude
