Job Description ROLE T I T L E Section Engineer J OB FAM I LY Design and Engineering ROLE P URP O S E To control a section of the works, according to a specific discipline. Management of a team of Site Engineers within same discipline. A CCOU N T A BI L IT I E S Health Safety & Environmental Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertakes periodic reviews Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation Carries out Site and Visitor Inductions Undertake frequent Health, Safety and Welfare engagement inspections on site, ensuring that findings are both reported and passed to others for action where necessary. Production and implementation of Permits to Work, such as Permit to Excavate in timely manner to ensure these are in place prior to any works commencing. Undertakes and mentors less experienced staff in safety audits Engineering Control Provision of ‘ primary ’ setting out control and recognizes the optimum location for installation Coaches junior engineers in the use of setting out techniques Guides & coaches Site Engineers in technical requirements and techniques of setting out Guides and coaches Site Engineers in identification of construction issues and methods for raising these for resolution Reviews construction drawings, specifications and testing requirements and ensure that Site Engineers are able to read, interpret and understand requirements from these. Assists Engineering staff in understanding testing requirements and guide them to follow processes such as ITP Hold Points etc, including production and tracking of quality assurance documentation. Quality Assists the Sub-Agent with management of production, checking and submission of Handover Documentation Assists the Sub-Agent in following systems and processes to support construction of the works in accordance with the specification (e.g. Materials Approval, NCR, Handover Documentation) Support Site Engineers in production of Quality documentation, including tracking of completion Carries out Independent Inspections of their own section and of others Liaise with designer to resolve technical issues through TQ or RFI process. Productivity Assists the Sub-Agent in p roduc ing short-term programme s and provide quantities of progression to aid measurement against planned works Provide as-built programme and reports on this during weekly meets with the Sub-Agent. Monitors the performance of subcontractors work to ensure this meets the required outputs, highlight ing where there are shortcomings Communicates weekly programme and targets to the Supervisors and Subcontractors staff Commercial Maintains accurate diary, including dialogue with external organisations (subcontractors) Collates w eekly m easure information and monitors wastage against budget allowances / KPI ’ s Assists Foreperson in labour and plant reconciliation Identifies items of additional work and raises requirements with Sub-Agents. PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE The following qualities/experience are essential: Core Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately. Suggests improvements to systems Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating with various levels of staff and operatives Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified Must be a strong team player, with developed communication skills Health Safety & Environmental Understands Permit System and actively raises Permits to Work Is able to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions where necessary. Ability to identify when issues need is proactive in implementing actions and controls Good level of Environmental Awareness and ability to provide guidance to others on constraints Engineering Control Able to carry out complex setting out Able to resolve issues with control and information provided Able to identify issues on drawings and suggest construction solutions Able to provide guidance to Site Engineers on dimensional control, technical interpretation of drawings and specifications and methods of portraying this to the operatives on site Quality Understands and has experience of producing and tracking of quality assurance documentation Actively drives the production of quality handover documentation and information Strong understanding of construction tolerances Ability to read and understand s pecification s and instruct others on the testing requirements Productivity Able to complete short term programmes by reading stage programmes Able to as-built short term programmes and provide updates to the team weekly Strong knowledge of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Structures, Roadworks The following qualities/experience are desirable: Leadership skills advancing Evidence of effective independent judgement skills Good progression towards professional accreditation ( eg ICE, IHT) BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES Results Driven: Demonstrates a passion and excitement for his/her work.
