Salary
£65,184 – £77,845 per year (pro‑rated for part time)
Overview
The City of Edinburgh Council invites applications for a Senior Solicitor to join its in‑house Real Estate legal team. Experience in commercial property law or planning law, or a combination of both, is required; experience working for a public sector organisation is desirable.
Responsibilities
* Advise on planning and property law, including development agreements, site assembly, commercial leasing, purchases, sales, asset management work, advice on residential leases, title queries and work unique to local authorities (e.g. Low Emission Zone, Compulsory Purchase, nature reserve dedications).
* Provide complex planning and building control advice, including s75 agreements, enforcement actions, Judicial reviews, CPOs and policy support.
* Support high‑profile capital projects within the UNESCO World Heritage Site and listed areas, balancing development with heritage protection.
Qualifications
* Professional solicitor qualification with senior‑level experience.
* Positive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to work as part of a team to find solutions to complex problems.
* Strong commercial acumen and suitability to deliver relevant and appropriate legal advice.
