Job overview
We are looking to recruit an experienced Cardiac Physiologist/Clinical Scientist in Echocardiography. The post is a fixed term 22-month contract funded as part of a research study in partnership with Edwards. The successful candidate will assist in the development and delivery of an electronic fast track referral pathway for patients with severe aortic stenosis, standardisation of diagnostic and triage protocols, and strengthening regional collaboration across NHS partners. The physiologist will be based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and will provide hands-on echocardiography support and educational support across multiple hospital sites; there will be an innovative element to this post.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialised technical expertise in echocardiography.
* Provide specialised technical expertise in the diagnosis of valvular heart disease, particularly aortic stenosis.
* Provide independent outreach.
* Act as the primary point of communication between regional echo services and LHCH structural valve service.
* Collaborate closely with TAVI specialist nurses and medical teams.
* Demonstrate empathy when dealing with patients in distressing conditions.
* Independently interpret results and provide factual reports for highly specialised diagnostic cardiac investigations.
* Communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff regarding outcomes of diagnostic investigations.
* Provide supervision and training for clinical staff, Trainee Cardiac Physiologists and other allied health professionals.
* Assist the lead physiologist in implementing departmental strategies to develop patient-focused services in line with activity targets and Directorate requirements.
* Monitor and maintain quality of services within the designated section.
* Keep own practice up to date.
* Participate in clinical audit and R&D activities and consider future implications for cardiology development.
