Job Purpose
Manage the safe and economical delivery of operations associated with our “New Business” workstream within Lighting and Grid, across multiple depots within the North region. The work activity spans various sizes of street lighting projects and domestic connections, working with multiple clients, and a team comprising Operational Supervisors, Commercial Engineers, Administrators, and field-based operatives, both Direct Labour & Sub-Contractors.
Engage with the New Business Contracts Manager to align with the North region's strategic and sustainable growth plan.
The safe, effective, and efficient delivery of the works is a key focus of this role.
Main Responsibilities of the role
1. Ensure all operational activities are managed and executed safely, meeting the company’s time, cost, and quality objectives, and comply with environmental legislation & standards.
2. Manage supervisory and operational staff, including performance management and disciplinary issues of all direct reports, and monitor and improve performance using the performance management process.
3. Manage the operational performance of the North Region New Business to maximize efficiencies and meet operational and financial targets.
4. Identify and implement operational synergies between depots within the North Region New Business Department.
5. Develop and maintain key customer relationships (existing & new).
6. Promote a culture of commitment to wellbeing, leading by example.
7. Manage employee attendance in line with established procedures.
8. Support the development and training plans to meet business requirements.
9. Take full accountability for the operational management of the North Region New Business workstream.
10. Develop a regional work programme aligning resources to activity volumes to optimize performance and productivity.
11. Control costs and manage spend within Operations for the workstream.
What we need from you
1. Proven ability to manage multiple operational teams covering diverse activities.
2. Understanding of electrical engineering, technical, and operational requirements relevant to the activity.
3. Track record of delivering operational performance targets, including finance and customer service.
4. Personal drive and motivation skills.
5. Understanding of management accounting, ability to forecast, manage, and monitor team budgets, and identify opportunities for value increase or savings.
6. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities, utility site safety procedures, and ideally a safety qualification (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
7. Ability to lead, motivate, and manage operational teams to meet performance requirements.
8. Support team development through effective performance management.
9. Manage HR processes, ensuring effective use of information channels and compliance with policies.
10. Manage attendance in line with targets.
11. Must hold a full valid driving license.
