Overview Of The Role

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will be a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support the delivery of environment and water infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have an awareness of NEC contracts and a strong understanding of project lifecycle management within regulated sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects that enhance the environment, water quality, promote sustainability, and improve community resilience to environmental challenges, such as climate change and flood risk management.


Key Responsibilities And Duties

* Assist in the planning, execution, and monitoring of water and environment projects under NEC3/NEC4 contracts
* Support the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager in managing scope, budget, schedule, and risk across multiple workstreams
* Coordinate with stakeholders including clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies
* Prepare and maintain project documentation including programmes, risk registers, early warnings, and compensation event records
* Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, health & safety standards, and contract obligations
* Attend site visits, progress meetings, and contribute to quality assurance and performance reviews
* Assist in procurement activities and contract administration in line with NEC principles


Candidate Specification


Essential

* Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Project Management, or related discipline
* 3+ years of experience in project delivery within the water or environmental sector
* Awareness of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts (ECC, PSC, or TSC)
* Actively working towards MAPM, ChPP, MCIWEM, MICE, MCIOB, MRICS etc
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Project management experience across a range of high risk / high complexity / high value projects and programmes with a strong focus on internal and external stakeholder management and complex risk management
* Knowledge of CDM regulations
* Ability to work a minimum of 2 days per week in the nominated office
* Able to foster and promote collaborative working, have a can‑do attitude and a willingness to learn and develop


Desirable

* Working experience of NEC PSC and ECC
* Experience across the full project lifecycle
* Experience working in the environment and water sector
