Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload and delivering assessment and rehabilitation for patients with dysphagia and/or communication impairments across the clinical areas covered within the rotation. There is a strong emphasis on collaborative multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, ensuring integrated and patient‑centred care. The role includes access to FEES (Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) and Video fluoroscopy, supporting dysphagia assessment and management.
You will have opportunities to contribute to service development and quality improvement projects. The SLT Team has recently undertaken training in Quality Improvement methodology and now actively applies this approach to enhance service delivery.
Requirements
* Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Requirement to contribute to the weekend rota, supporting patients on the acute stroke wards

Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
* Evidence of successful completion of relevant short courses
* Registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
* Post basic training in dysphagia
* Awareness of RCSLT dysphagia competencies
* Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
Knowledge
* Relevant undergraduate / postgraduate experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions
* Relevant experience at undergraduate / postgraduate level of working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders
* Understands principles of evidence‑based practice
* Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary team
* Knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance / audit
* Demonstrates knowledge of specialist SLT assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to clinical area
* Awareness of limitations and will seek support
* Able to work flexibly to meet the demands of an unpredictable workload and has the ability to cope with working in a stressful environment
* Demonstrates the ability to reflect on practice with peers / clinical supervisor
* Relevant experience in relation to development of speech and language therapy skills outside of undergraduate placements
* Experience working in the NHS
