Senior Technical Officer (Electronics)

FTE: 1.0 (37 hours per week)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: UH5 £28,778 per annum (progress to £32,080 with increments on achieving skills and experience)
Annual Leave: 25 days plus public holidays and an additional four days, including office closure between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will prepare materials and equipment for practical, commercial and short course classes as required in one or more areas of the School, primarily supporting specialist techniques in the electronics area for undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will assist in the preparation of laboratories and workshops for short courses and other activities, demonstrate safe use of testing kits and technical equipment, and provide specialist and general assistance to students.
You will liaise with Estates and contractors regarding management and maintenance of demonstration and experimental areas, ensuring work meets the School's requirements. You will assist the Technical Team Leader with consultancy work and research, and help develop new practical sessions for teaching and short courses.
You will be responsible for ordering and maintaining stock levels and minor equipment for practical sessions in consultation with Program and Module Leaders and other academic staff, and assist with general management and housekeeping of laboratories and workshops to keep a safe condition and suitable consumable levels.
Skills and Experience Required
Professional experience of managing and/or maintaining an efficient technical operation. Experience and knowledge of electronics platforms (Arduino, microcontrollers, FPGA) including programming these devices.
Specialist skills required in electronic system building and testing, product development from concept to manufacture, and maintaining test equipment for testing and analysis of systems.
Ideally experience working in Further or Higher Education and practical experience in a teaching laboratory and/or workshop environment.
Practical experience using, maintaining, and developing electronic/communications/digital systems equipment, instruments, and software packages is desirable.
Qualifications Required
Education to A-level or equivalent, or proven experience. Ideally a recognised qualification in an appropriate subject at degree or HNC/HND level or equivalent.
