We’re excited to be partnering with a growing, well-established medical communications agency to hire a Principal Medical Writer to take a lead role across key accounts. This is an opportunity for an experienced writer to combine hands-on content development, client partnership, and team mentoring within a collaborative, high-quality scientific environment.
The Role
You’ll act as a lead writer across accounts, delivering high-quality scientific content while building strong client relationships and contributing to strategic programmes. You’ll also support and mentor junior writers, playing a key role in maintaining editorial excellence across the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead development of a wide range of medical communications materials across therapy areas
* Adapt content for different audiences (HCP, patient, internal)
* Ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, and compliance (ABPI, GPP, etc.)
* Review and QC work from junior and freelance writers
* Act as a trusted partner to clients and external experts
* Lead on projects/accounts, including meetings, briefings, and ongoing communication
* Contribute to strategic planning and identify opportunities for account growth
* Manage multiple projects to deadline and budget
* Brief internal teams and external vendors clearly and effectively
* Line manage and mentor junior writers, supporting their development
* Contribute to proposals, pitches, and new business opportunities
* Support budget planning and project scoping
* Stay up to date with therapy areas, competitors, and industry developments
What We’re Looking For
* 5+ years’ experience in a medical writing role within a medcomms/healthcare agency
* Strong scientific background (MSc/PhD preferred)
* Proven experience leading projects and reviewing content
* Confident client communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
* Experience mentoring or line managing junior team members
* Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and ability to manage multiple priorities
