Swansea Community Workshops (SCW) is a registered charity that provides the opportunity for people of all backgrounds to pursue practical interests in a friendly communal environment.
The main activity at Swansea Community Workshops (SCW) is to provide facilities for hobbies, recreation, and leisure time occupation in a socially interactive and practical environment. Their projects are aimed at sharing and learning new skills and supporting the community. Their facilities are for public benefit, specifically targeting socially excluded members of the local community in Swansea.
The Board of Trustees at Swansea Community Workshops are actively looking to recruit new members to their Board. They are accepting interest from all, but are particularly interested in diversifying their Board and are encouraging interest from women, LGBTQ+, as well as ethnically diverse backgrounds and those with experience in the craft sector.
SCW are currently looking for people for the following trustee positions (these roles are voluntary/ unpaid):
Vice-Chair
The Vice-Chair shares responsibility with, and in the absence of, the Chair for board management, support to individual trustees, support to the Centre Manager and facilitating scrutiny of SCW’s strategic direction, values, policies, and operational efficiency.
The Vice-Chair also plays an active role in representing the organisation to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
A minimum commitment of 6-10 hours per month with attendance at monthly sub-committee meetings and bimonthly Board of Trustee meetings, is expected.
Treasurer
The Treasurer oversees the financial affairs of the organisation and ensures they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. They ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. They monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation and oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts, and audits.
A minimum commitment of 6-10 hours per month with attendance at monthly sub-committee meetings and bimonthly Board of Trustee meetings, is expected.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for the recording and documentation of all charity and trustee meetings. They lead the charity to enable it to fulfil its purpose and ensure an effective relationship between the charity and the staff/volunteers, the charity and the external stakeholders/community. They act as a spokesperson and figurehead as appropriate. They supervise and support the Centre Manager.
A minimum commitment of 3-6 hours per month with attendance at monthly sub-committee meetings and bimonthly Board of Trustee meetings, is expected.
General Trustee Members (no specific role)
SCW are keen to receive applications from people with experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
1. Legal (Charity, company, employment, H&S)
2. Income generation and fundraising
3. Financial and charity accounting
4. Strategic planning
5. Governance / Chairing
6. Sector experience and skills, such as personal or professional level experience in woodwork, glass, sewing, pottery, art, media, or more.

26. Involve
Involve has a variety of schemes that engage people in need in Swansea. Involve recruit, train and support volunteers to be in a befriending/ Independent visitor role on a one to one or in a group setting to meet the needs of individual children, young people, families, adults with various needs or older people.
