Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer apart-time post (6 PAs per week) for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty interest in Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking department, providing high-quality ophthalmic care in a well-supported and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be encouraged to further develop their corneal subspecialty expertise, contribute to our adult cataract service, and support the continuing growth of a leading consultant team.

The sub-specialty service is supported by one optometrist in the External Eye Clinic and one Specialist Contact Lens optometrist. The new post-holder will inherit a mature service with no significant waiting lists, allowing them time to shape the service and easily implement positive change. Our team has been has successfully supported surrounding Trust to reduce corneal graft waiting lists over recent years.

Main duties of the job
* Provide expert clinical care in cornea and anterior segment surgery, managing both outpatient and surgical services.
* Inherit and lead a well-established corneal service with no significant waiting list, allowing time and space for shaping service delivery and implementing positive innovation.
* Collaborate closely with a dedicated team, including a Specialist Optometrist in the External Eye Clinic and a Specialist Contact Lens Optometrist.
* Contribute to the Trust-wide adult cataract surgery service and general ophthalmology care.
* Participate in the consultant on-call rota (proportional to part-time commitment).
* Play an active role in departmental audit, clinical governance, and service improvement projects.
* Engage in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, allied professionals, and medical students.
* Support the development of the consultant team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.
* If desired, pursue research interests, supported by the Trust's developing research portfolio and links with the University of Southampton. Dedicated research time can be included in the job plan.

We pride ourselves in being a small, friendly department, with real drive to improve both patient care and the working environment for our staff. This is a job share post to work with the current Consultant with a total job plan of 12PA. As well as developing the cornea and anterior segment service the new post-holder will be expected to support the adult cataract surgery service. Our consultants work a 1 in 5 local weekday on-call rota and a regional 1 in 17 weekend regional on-call based at University Hospitals Southampton and it is expected that this will be shared with current consultant.
The department actively supports staff training and development, as exampled by our development of our Ophthalmic Practitioner team, success with OPT and development of CESR training, and is committed to ensure a sustainable work life balance exists. We have been successful at getting many junior doctors onto Ophthamic Specialist Training at both ST1 and ST3 level. The Trust is committed to flexible working and the development of this job share is an example of this. We are developing a strong research portfolio supported by our Research Fellow and links with the University Department in Southampton, it is possible to have dedicated time for research in the successful candidates job plan.
