Role overview
As a Senior Front-End Developer, you'll play a key role in shaping our digital products and driving innovation and excellence in our front-end engineering. You'll help deliver outstanding front-end solutions by setting high coding standards, designing the architecture, and guiding engineering practices. Additionally, you'll be instrumental in helping lead our team through exciting and complex technical challenges on our platform and product teams.
This role can be Hybrid from either our London or Glasgow Studios
Responsibilities
1. Lead and deliver features end-to-end, converting designs into production-grade code.
2. Set front-end architecture and coding standards, define patterns, assure quality, and drive component reuse.
3. Own the testing strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels to keep coverage reliable and meaningful.
4. Optimise performance and accessibility to meet Core Web Vitals targets and WCAG AA.
5. Operate the product in production by maintaining Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, monitoring health, handling incidents, and preventing regressions.
6. Collaborate with designers and product managers, Quality Assurance (QA), and back-end engineers to deliver small, reversible increments.
7. Set realistic commitments, surface risks early, and keep stakeholders aligned on scope and timelines.
8. Manage feature flags, canary releases, and rollback plans.
9. Seek and apply feedback, share domain knowledge, maintain documentation, and strengthen team learning.
Qualifications
Essential requirements
10. 6+ years of professional front-end experience.
11. Expert-level knowledge of React, including hooks, context, performance optimisation, and modern patterns.
12. Proficient in TypeScript for scalable, type-safe codebases.
13. Solid experience with framework and its ecosystem (SSR, SSG, ISR).
14. Deep knowledge of front-end engineering practices: state management, code splitting, bundle optimisation.
15. Strong testing and debugging with Playwright, Jest, Cypress, or similar.
16. Proven mentoring and cross-functional collaboration delivering user-centric software.
17. Strong understanding of design systems and component libraries, partnering with UX/UI.
18. Track record of technical leadership guiding delivery across multi-environment projects.
19. Experience shaping solutions during discovery and advising on technical feasibility.
20. Experience with Git and modern branching strategies, including conflict resolution and peer PR reviews.
Desirable skills
21. Cloud-native delivery on AWS or Azure, serverless or containers.
22. Design System and Service Standard experience.
23. Storybook ownership for UI documentation and visual review.
24. Figma for collaboration and Mural for workshops.
25. Front-end security basics, including XSS and CSRF protections, dependency risk scanning, and secret handling.
Security clearance and eligibility
26. Active UK Security Check (SC) to start, or eligible for SC with required residency.
27. Must meet residency requirements for SC transfer.
