Overview
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two Research Site Managers to support our ambition to increase opportunities for patients to participate in research studies. One position will be based at Basildon Hospital and the other at Southend Hospital. The closing date is 11 November 2025.
You need to be a self-motivated individual with strong analytical, time management and problem-solving skills and the ability to think laterally. Strong leadership qualities are crucial for this position. The Research Site Manager must inspire and motivate a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Excellent communication skills are required to liaise effectively with research study teams, Trust colleagues, and external Sponsors. The post holder should be adaptable, solution-focused, with a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the department.
Provide a sustainable and suitable environment in which research participants can safely participate in ethically approved studies, and ensure the needs and safety of participants are central to research delivery. Identify areas for service development and participate in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to support changes in practice, leading on areas of expertise.
Main duties of the job
* Be responsible for the planning, staffing and day-to-day operational management of the research infrastructure at either the Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) at Basildon Hospital or the research clinic and dedicated research in-patient beds at Southend Hospital. This includes ensuring the most efficient use of available resources and maximising opportunities for income generation.
* Oversee the conduct of clinical research studies undertaken within the research centre/site, providing expert operational advice and guidance to ensure all projects are conducted according to the highest ethical and Good Clinical Practice principles, and in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory standards. Ensure the site is run to professional standards, promoting its position as a centre of excellence in the delivery of clinical research across diverse therapeutic settings.
* Develop strong working relationships with colleagues across the site and wider Trust, as well as external partners in the NHS, academia and the life sciences industry.
* Communicate complex information to a range of people in a variety of situations using negotiating and influencing skills as required.
* Carry out reviews of potential new studies, together with the Research Team Leads and Approvals Managers, to determine feasibility, scientific interest and cost effectiveness.
