We are seeking a new Full-time Manager at J. Andrew Shop in Woolsery, North Devon. The historic building has recently undergone a full remodel, with a fresh look, and is focused on being a traditional village shop that supplies the local market with daily goods and services, while supporting unique and high quality local vendors and producers.
We currently carry southwest makers such as Chocolarder, Little's Coffee, Clovelly Soaps, Brendon Hill Preserves and Baboo Ice Creams as well as other amazing UK brands. We have fruit and veg from our own farm, local butcher's meats, eggs from down the road and cheeses from our local dairy. We are excited to work with a manager to continue sourcing new products and educating our staff on each new addition, as well as how best to promote and display the new lines.
The ideal person will be passionate, enthusiastic and committed to the role and the overall ethos and brand. You must have the flexibility to work a variety of shifts, both during the week, at night and at weekends to cover as needed, but the role would mainly be Monday - Friday 7am - 5pm, for an average of 48 hours per week.
Your daily responsibilities would include:
Stock inventory and orders from various suppliers
Staff management, including rotas, training, performance reviews, etc
Seasonal and new product display
Brand consistency
Research and trials of new products
Receiving orders and stocking of shelves
Operating tills and the POS system including the Post Office system
Bookkeeping and reporting to our company accountant
Analysing and responding to weekly GP%, wastage% and other P&L reporting
Post Office van management, including booking in for various tests, checks, services and MOT
Serving customers in an engaged and friendly manner
We are looking for an experienced team player, with a friendly and outgoing disposition, which is essential. You must have experience with staff management, disciplinary procedures, performance appraisals and the new hiring process. You must also have the ability to create and maintain check lists, schedules, training manuals and standard operating procedures. We would expect you to have the ability and motivation to take initiative and to do a variety of tasks, while staying on point with the company brand and overall vision. You must have the physical ability to lift 10 kilos minimum, push and pull carts of stock and be on your feet for a full shift if required. Previous retail or or relatable hospitality experience is required.
