Are you looking for a new challenge and to make a difference to our community?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 2, Night healthcare assistant to work with our Early Intervention Team nurses and reablement support workers.

The role entails working in patient's homes to support our nurses with patient care and assisting with driving our nurses around the West Suffolk area. Shifts are 21:30- 08:00 7 days a week. To work alongside the out of hours nurses visiting patients at home overnight. You will drive the nurse, so that they can triage on the road. You will support with manual handling and assist the nurses whilst on visits.

Main duties of the job

To drive or navigate the pool car or own car to and from patients in the West Suffolk Community area, enabling the nurse and post holder to treat patients safely in their location.Assist patients with the maintenance of their personal hygiene and toileting.Assist patients with mobility using manual handling risk assessment and safe manual handling.Prepare and support patients undergoing clinical activities and recovering from clinical interventions.Undertake end of life care, providing support to family and colleagues.Communicate with patients and families at times of crisis.

The suitable candidate will have experience of working and communicating with a range of different people. They must also demonstrate an awareness of the importance of infection prevention and keeping the clinical environment clean.

The ability to drive to rural locations is fundamental to this role.

Job responsibilities

KEY TASKS:

To drive or navigate the pool car or own car to and from patients in the West Suffolk Community area, enabling the nurse and post holder to treat patients safely in their location.

To run basic checks on the vehicle to ensure its and passengers safety.

To ensure the car is clean and hygienic for the transportation of staff and equipment.


Person Specification


Education & Qualification

* oCare Certificate or commitment to undertaking and achieving the Care Certificate within initial twelve weeks
* oLevel 1 qualification or equivalent in both Maths and English*(*This should not prevent you from applying for this post, if you do not hold Level 1 and Maths and English or equivalent you will be required to undertake a 90 minute assessment and if successful you will be invited to interview)
* oVocational qualification at Level 2 in Health, Health and Social Care or sector related subject area


Experience & Knowledge

* oExperience of working / communicating with the general public
* oCommunication with a range of different people including service users, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team
* oWorking in an effective team oDemonstrates awareness of the 6C's, Trust values and Patients First Service Standards
* oAble to understand the importance of how to apply Person Centred Values in the care environment: privacy, dignity, respect, active participation, equality, diversity, confidentiality.
* oDemonstrates an awareness of the importance of keeping the clinical environment safe and clean
* oExperience of working in a healthcare team environment
* oUnderstanding of risk management and health and safety issues, including safe manual handling


Skills & Abilities

* oAble to use information technology devices
* oAccurate with attention to detail


Personal Qualities

* oBe able to drive a Manual car, and have a driving licence.
* oFlexible approach to working hours with the ability to work an alternating shift pattern
* oAble to cope with exposure to unpleasant smells and bodily fluids
* oAble to deal with challenging situations
* oAble to relate to all people, valuing their individual traits that contribute to team working and the outcomes of care delivery.
