Job Summary
Work with the business units to improve the quality of Taylor Wimpey’s development design. This in turn will deliver improved performance in delivering value from land, implementable planning consents and sustainable communities for our customers through improved development design. Please note: This role is contracted to Head Office, however the successful candidate can be based at any of our Taylor Wimpey Business Unit offices.
Primary Responsibilities
* Be a passionate and informed advocate of good quality place making and its benefits to TW and our customers.
* Develop strong relationships with the TW design community.
* Assist the Head of Urban Design to support Business units in the preparation of development designs with a focus on placemaking quality, planning policy compliance and delivery of TW business objectives, focusing on high profile and high risk projects.
* Assist in the delivery of the internal Design Academy and the running of regional design workshops to improve knowledge and share best practice.
* Support the planning and delivery of the bi‑annual Design Lead Conference and the annual Design Competition.
* Support internal regional design reviews to improve the quality of our developments.
* Work with the Head of Urban Design to implement new standard processes and practices within TW.
* Prepare best practice notes and guidance and embed best practice.
* Liaise with external designers to ensure alignment with TW practice and policy.
* Liaise with the external urban design community to represent TW and bring learning back into TW.
* Work with other Head Office functions with regard to cross‑responsibility issues, particularly Land and Planning and Technical.
Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements
* Degree in Urban Design / Architecture or other appropriate qualification or membership of an appropriate professional body.
* Understanding of current thinking and government policy in place making and its implications in planning and development.
* Experience and understanding of the business and technical requirements of volume house building.
* Track record of working with or in design consultancy, preparing high quality designs.
* Ability to communicate graphically, both with free hand drawing and the appropriate design software.
