South Central Ambulance Service Resilience and Specialist Operations Department have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics Officer (Resilience & Specialist Operations - HART).
Based at the Winchester & Eastleigh Resource Centre you will provide an effective logistical support function to specialist clinical staff and managers.
Due to the operational nature of the role some flexibility around the core hours will be expected. The post holder may be expected to work in locations other than their base as required
Main duties of the job
The function of the Logistics Officer – HART is to:
* To provide an effective logistical support function to specialist clinical staff and managers.
* Support the day to day operational running of the Resilience & Specialist Operations Department by providing logistical support to the HART unit.
* Manage HART equipment inventory to include the maintenance, servicing, calibration, collection and distribution of specialist equipment as required across the Trust.
The Post holder will also:
· Support the Resilience and Specialist Operations Department in the logistical planning of large events.
· Support the HART Unit in the logistical planning of large events or ongoing operations which may include liaison with external partners or organisations.
· Assist other areas of the Trust as directed by the Resilience & Specialist Operations managers when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Post holder will:
· Work closely with the HART Operational Manager to plan and prioritise workload which will usually be communicated personally, via email, or phone, making maximum use of available resources and ensuring maximum productivity.
· Ensure that the HART Operational Manager is regularly updated in relation to the progress of your daily duties.
· Be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, commercial businesses and where barriers are identified be persuasive and tactful in dealing with a variety of situations.
· Drive any vehicle owned, hired, or on loan to the South Central Ambulance NHS Trust, for which you are properly licensed, as required.
· Drive and Operate any vehicle you are required to, in accordance with Trust Policy (CPP19 – Driving and care of Trust Vehicles)
· Will hold the appropriate emergency driving qualifications to drive a Trust vehicle under emergency conditions.
· Maintain medical equipment used within HART in compliance with safety regulations, procedures, policies and manufacturers recommendations ensuring an efficient and effective medical equipment maintenance, repair and replacement service to the Trust.
· Maintain medical equipment used within National Interoperable Capabilities – Mass Casualty Vehicles in compliance with safety regulations, procedures, policies and requirements from NHS R ECU.
· Ensure that Trust specialist equipment is prepared for operational use.
· Liaise with HART Staff to coordinate and retrieve faulty/surplus equipment.
· Identify faults and problem solve with the departmental equipment and report the findings to the relevant individuals.
· Where experienced and trained to do so, effect repairs of relevant HART equipment.
· Ensure the departmental stores within the HART facility and at any other site used by the Resilience Team are clean, tidy and that accurate stock levels are recorded and maintained. Ensure stock is rotated and removed /disposed of where required.
· Order supplies and equipment as requested or when required utilising Trust procurement systems and in conjunction with other departments (including medical gases.
· Clean and safely pack equipment for return or re-supply within the guidelines of the Control Infection Policy.
· Contact waste contractors to discuss and arrange collection and disposal of items beyond economical repair in accordance with WEEE regulations, and complete relevant documentation.
· To maintain sufficient spare parts and stock levels to ensure service delivery.
· Arrange and influence the provision of key reserve equipment to ensure that critical service delivery is maintained in accordance with HART operational requirements.
· Ensure that equipment for maintaining operational resilience kept at strategic locations is maintained.
· Ensure that any accidents, near misses or hazards are reported using the DATIX system and health and safety documentation.
· To maintain security around vehicle/equipment stores, to apply labelling to equipment as required.
· To ensure that all equipment is tested and inspected against trust LOLER / PUWER polices.
· To test, inspect and maintain equipment in accordance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005, PPE regulations 2005, PUWER regulations 2007 and LOLER regulations 1998.
· To test, inspect and maintain Detection identification and Monitoring (DIM) in accordance with manufacturers guidance and requirements.
· To dispose of specialist equipment waste in the appropriate manner.
· To ensure equipment is recovered from vehicles being de-commissioned.
· Provide advice and information to clinical and non-clinical staff on the use of biomedical equipment and devices.
· Provide equipment familiarisation training as prescribed by the department to members of staff when delivering / maintaining equipment or in the course of your duties.
· Provide a commissioning service for all new HART equipment.
· Provide and manage a quarantine service for all faulty, damaged equipment or equipment that has reached its end of life.
· Maintain accurate written and electronic records of all work undertaken and assists in the maintenance of the computerised asset management system ensuring that the system contains up to date and accurate information as per the National Core Standards requirements.
· Provide advice on all technical matters relating to new or proposed HART medical equipment or changes to suppliers, models or types of current equipment. Passes information to appropriate managers relating to any equipment matter which may have a bearing on the service provided to patients or to the wider community.
· Liaise with contractors and suppliers and arrange for repair and maintenance of equipment unable to be undertaken within the trust with the agreed suppliers and manufacturers.
· Attend relevant internal and external meetings as required, as a representative of the HART unit, as directed by the HART Operational Manager.
· Maintain accurate costing information relating to repairs and spare parts to assist in budget monitoring and stock control and provide advice to the relevant HART budget holders.
· Assist where required in the collection and making ready of any equipment which may have been used at Incidents or Exercises which may on occasions result in the indirect exposure to a distressing situation.
· Deliver supplies and equipment (which may be heavy and bulky) to locations or partners across the operating area, ensuring that productivity is maximised with each journey undertaken to reduce excessive travelling.
· Respond to short notice requests for broken / missing / damaged equipment (including Specialist and operational equipment) in order to ensure uninterrupted service delivery ensuring accurate and timely information flow between the team members.
· If supplied, ensure your vehicle is kept appropriately stocked with equipment and consumables to allow for a rapid response to any issues outlines above.
· Provide regular reports to the HART Operations Manager around the status of vehicles under the control of the department identifying any issues and working to resolve them in a timely fashion.
· Assist the Resilience & Specialist Operations Department with the set up and break down of Exercises where required (e.g. assisting with Scene and tent setup or transportation of vehicles to the site).
· Take part in all required training courses and personal development to obtain or maintain appropriate knowledge or skills in relation to effective performance of the post. Where necessary pass on knowledge and skills to colleagues by appropriate means
· Support the Resilience and Specialist Operations Department in the logistical planning of large events (such as CPD days, local conferences etc.) which may include liaison with external partners or organisations.
· Support the HART Unit in the logistical planning of large events or ongoing operations which may include liaison with external partners or organisations.
· Assist other areas of the Trust as directed by the Resilience & Specialist Operations managers when required.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
* Educated to GCSE or NVQ/City of Guilds level 3 or equivalent
* Evidence of Continuous Professional / Personal development
* Hold a valid UK driving licence with Class C1 and no more than 3 penalty points
* Emergency Driving Qualification or willing to undertake the course and successfully complete this within 12 months
* Personal Protective Equipment Inspection course or equivalent, or willing to undertake in the first 12 months
