Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist (Part‑time)
Service Line: Learning Disabilities
Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
Managerially Responsible to: Operations Director
We are seeking an experienced part‑time (4 sessions/week) Consultant Psychiatrist who will work in our Scottish Residential Learning Disability services and provide senior medical cover to our on‑call rota (1 in 5). The post holder will be the Responsible Medical Officer and will oversee and maintain the care of all residents as required and will also have responsibility for ensuring the good quality of medical care offered in accordance with GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

* Thistle House (Dundee, DD5 1PL) – 10 residents
* Ellen Mhor (Dundee, DD1 2QH) – 12 residents
* Lindsay House (Dundee, DD3 9AG) – 2 residents
* Ranaich (Dunblane, FK15 0DR) – 14 residents
* Trinity House and Trinity Lodge (Lockerbie, DG11 2DS & DG11 2AG) – 18 residents
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users residing in Scottish residential services
* Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team
* Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment
* Conduct patient reviews and clinical audits
* Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance within the service
* Produce Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunals
* Maintain good patient records
* Ensure and maintain regular communications with the Scotland Medical Director and Operations Director
* Communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies; maintain appropriate reports
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to the professional standards for CPD as set out by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Contribute to 1 in 5 on‑call rota

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is…
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 22 and AMP Status
* Experienced and knowledgeable in Learning Disability Psychiatry
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Adults with Incapacity Act
* A first‑rate communicator who can interview, assess, treat patients and write clear, comprehensive medical notes
* Committed to continued professional development
* Able to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
