Asa team we strive towards delivering a high standard of care and this isreflected in the feedback we receive from the patients and relatives who havehad experience of being on our ward.
Main duties of the job
Asa healthcare assistant on the ward you will be required to assist the qualifiedstaff in providing direct patient care. You must be able to work effectively aspart of a team as well as being able to use your initiative when required. Thisrole is shift working, both days and nights including weekends and bankholidays.
The successful applicantmust be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written andverbal. You will possess good organisational skills and be able to contributeto the development of flexible working arrangements within the team.
Weare an elderly rehabilitation ward, promoting independence is paramount inorder to get the optimum outcome for the patient.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

From April 9th 2025 - Healthcare assistants - You must have a minimum of two yearsof experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to considersponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria andhave a current visa expiring within 3 months).
Job responsibilities
Therole of the healthcare assistant on the ward includes:
- taking instructions fromthe qualified nurse.
- delivering personal careto ensure hygiene need are met.
- ensuring nutritional needsare met.
- assisting with toileting.
- carrying out vitalobservations.
- assisting with mobilisingpatients.
- ensuring necessarydocumentation is kept up to date and recorded accurately.
- communicatingwith patients, relatives and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
