An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic, highly motivated, and enthusiastic midwife to join the Maternity Practice Development Midwifery team at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Practice Development midwife for Maternity Support Workers.
The Practice Development Midwife for Maternity Support Workers plays a pivotal role in promoting excellence in maternity care through a focus on clinical education and support. This role combines leadership, education, and clinical practice to ensure safe, evidence-based, and high-quality care. The post holder will support the development of all maternity staff with a focus on MSW upskilling, and contribute to the continuous improvement of maternity services.
Main duties of the job
1. The Practice Development Midwife will be responsible for the enhanced clinical support and development of maternity staff, particularly Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) working both in hospital and the community settings. This includes maintaining an up to date register of continuing education for maternity staff.
2. An integral part of the role will be the provision of clinical and professional advice ensuring optimal use of MSW and midwives’ skills
3. They will liaise closely with the Deputy Director of Midwifery, Consultant Midwives, Obstetric Team, Education leads, Midwifery Matrons, ward managers and Higher Education Institute partners regarding training needs for staff
4. The Practice Development Midwife will support the coordination of the maternity training week and the in-situ drills and skills, working in collaboration with the wider maternity PDM tea
5. They will work alongside Maternity Support Workers and midwives in clinical practice who require additional support.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
7. NMC Registered Midwife currently registered to practice
8. Evidence of Post Registration
9. Mentorship Course, SSSA or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
10. Masters qualification or relevant masters’ level experience in relevant specialist area.
11. Teaching qualification or proven teaching track record
