Senior Technical Architect – DWP Digital
Join DWP Digital as a Senior Technical Architect and help build and maintain digital solutions that’ll be used by nearly every person in the UK.
Key responsibilities
* Design modern IT architecture across on‑prem, cloud and hybrid environments.
* Work with project delivery teams in agile, waterfall and hybrid environments from concept to go‑live.
* Translate business requirements into technical solutions with traceability to stakeholders.
* Advise on microservice and API‑led architecture, event‑based patterns, and integration strategies.
* Use architecture modelling techniques and tools to formulate and represent solutions.
* Manage cloud resources for scalability, performance and cost‑efficiency (IaaS, PaaS, Serverless).
Required skills and experience
* Architecture design across on‑prem, cloud and hybrid environments involving networking, security, presentation, middleware, database and integration aspects.
* Application of enterprise architecture principles, patterns, radars, practices and standards.
* Experience with architecture modelling techniques and tools.
* Strong knowledge of microservice and API‑led architectures, event‑based patterns (pub‑sub, data streaming).
* Experience with cloud services and managing resources for scalability and cost efficiency.
Location & work arrangements
Based in one of our digital hubs (Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne, Sheffield). Travel between hubs is expected; hybrid model of 40 % remote work and 60 % hub collaboration.
Compensation & benefits
Pay: Up to £83,917, including a Government Digital and Data Allowance.
Pension: Civil Service pension with 28.97 % employer contribution (£16,786 per year).
Holiday: 26–31 days per year, plus 3 extra days off per month on flexi‑time, and all public holidays.
