Title: Band 6 Midwife – Maternity – 9 months Fixed Term or Secondment, ending June 2027. Contract: 9 months. Hours: 37.5 per week – full time with possibility of flexible working. Ref 279-8001506-MAY26.
Main Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose and provide professional clinical midwifery care to women during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages without referral to a medical practitioner.
* Ensure referral to the appropriate health professional and work in partnership to maintain safe standards of care.
* Provide shift work including night duty and on‑call duty.
* Deliver a comprehensive orientation programme and receive appropriate support.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care consistent with evidence‑based practice.
* Discuss options and support parents in making informed choices regarding birth plans, pain relief, infant feeding, baby care, return to work and family planning.
* Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of care, modify midwifery care pathways and give professional advice as required.
* Act as client advocate, promoting their own health and well‑being.
* Respect privacy and dignity, obtain informed consent throughout the childbirth continuum.
* Refer clients to senior midwife, obstetrician, physiotherapist or paediatrician when needs and risks exceed the scope of practice or require specialist input.
* Work across the full rotation: Labour Ward, Antenatal & Postnatal Care, Maternity Assessment Unit.
Qualifications and Experience
* Qualified Midwife – NMC registered.
* Post Registration Practice.
* Completion of a Preceptorship Programme within NHS/equivalent system.
* 997/8 Mentorship Module or equivalent.
* Band 6 experience.
* Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) / Advanced Life Support Obstetrics (ALSO) or equivalent.
* Child Protection Course.
* Current UK driving licence.
