An established independent provider of specialist education and therapeutic services is seeking an experienced Assessment Manager to join its central referrals team. This senior role is responsible for carrying out robust assessments of children and young people with a wide range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, trauma, abuse, and mental health challenges.
Working closely with families, CAMHS, social workers, Local Authorities, and school leaders, the post-holder will ensure every assessment is thorough, evidence-based, and results in the most suitable placements. They will also play a key role in admissions panels, reporting, and stakeholder communication, ensuring that the admissions process remains child-centred, rigorous, and efficient.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake detailed assessments of children and young people, including home visits and use of varied assessment tools.
* Collaborate with CAMHS, clinical professionals, families, and Local Authorities to build a full picture of each pupil’s needs.
* Present findings and recommendations at multi-disciplinary referral panels.
* Contribute to the decision-making process for placements across schools and services.
* Produce high-quality written assessment reports within agreed timeframes.
* Provide expertise in complex case management, risk analysis, and decision making.
* Support admissions processes from initial referral through to successful placement.
The ideal candidate:
* Experience working within CAMHS or related child mental health services.
* Substantial experience assessing children and young people with SEND and complex needs.
* A recognised qualification as a Social Worker, with current registration.
* Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex caseloads.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to panels and working with multi-agency teams.
* Empathy, observation, and active listening skills, with a child-centred approach.
Desirables:
* Practice Education qualification to support social work students in placement.
* Experience in specialist education or therapeutic settings.
* Knowledge of SEND legislation and the EHCP process.
