Head of Cricket
The Head of Cricket is a full‑time, salaried post responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of cricket across all age groups from Prep School to Senior School. The role reports to the Director of Sport and works closely with the Head Master through the Director of Extra‑Curricular Activities.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
* Coordinate a comprehensive winter training programme for all year groups.
* Develop and implement a progressive technical programme for all teams and age levels, encouraging a smooth transition from Prep to Senior School.
* Collaborate with the Director of Sport to pursue England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) accreditation.
* Improve links with the Junior and Senior Club network to raise the profile of school cricket and attract potential pupils.
* Enhance the overall standard of cricket played at Lancing and raise the school’s profile among feeder prep schools.
* Coach other principal team sports during Advent and Lent terms, including Saturday afternoons.
* Lead coaching sessions for the 1st XI on match days in the Summer Term, including Saturday fixtures.
* Lead coaching sessions for the Prep School and appropriate junior teams (U11‑U13) on match days and Wednesday afternoon fixtures.
* Identify and nurture talented pupils at Prep School to support their progression into senior cricket.
* Develop girls’ cricket at Lancing.
* Assist in the delivery of other sports played at Lancing as required.
Skills and Experience
* Leadership experience within a sporting environment.
* Professional cricket‑playing background with recent playing experience.
* Experience in educational development work.
* Successful coaching track record; ECB/UKCC Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
* Understanding of wicket preparation and rotation (advantageous).
* Knowledge of the independent school sector and commitment to education.
* Strong team‑player ability, capable of leading and working within a small team as well as independently.
* Excellent planning, administrative and organisational skills.
* Outgoing, ambitious, and motivated approach.
* Strong organisational, discretion, flexibility, and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); training will be provided for the College’s Management Information System.
