Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Influence and shape how the organisation delivers service into the future, providing technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures, and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may require work during normal hours or out of hours.
* Support the delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements and testing/isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems.
* Contribute to the implementation of risk‑based maintenance philosophies, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability systems.
* Draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
Qualifications and Experience
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements.
* Experience testing and isolating high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability processes.
* Ability to draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
* UK driving licence.

Additional Information
This is a hybrid role; the base location will be near your home. Some travel and overnights may be required. We support incident management objectives in your development plan and provide appropriate training.
