About The Role
We're hiring a Site Manager – Substations (Power T&D). Location: UK Wide. Sector: Power Transmission & Distribution. Employment Type: Full-time. Balfour Beatty, a global leader in infrastructure delivery, is looking for a dedicated Site Manager – Substations to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team. This role focuses on the safe and sustainable delivery of on-site construction works and requires working with the Project Manager and wider team to ensure activities meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all site-based construction activities.
* Deliver works safely, compliantly, on time, and within budget.
* Provide partial accountability for all project phases: initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning, and handover.
* Oversee and optimise site resources and workforce.
* Maintain accurate and timely project records and documentation.
* Foster a positive team culture and support staff wellbeing and development on-site.
* Monitor compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
* Support the Project Manager/Director to achieve project goals.
* Act as a change agent, inspiring and leading a multi-disciplinary team towards a shared vision.
* Balance project constraints (time, cost, quality, scope, risk, benefits) to meet client expectations.
What you'll be doing
* Attend periodic project reviews (PRM) and maintain project documentation and progress records.
* Prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders.
* Apply scope, information, and configuration management principles.
* Support informed, cost-effective decision-making aligned with overall strategy.
* Ensure scope and package assignments support coordinated working.
* Understand and specify plant and equipment requirements.
* Maintain numerical and analytical capabilities relevant to the role.
* Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm and stay up to date with changes in legislation.
* Supervise safety and welfare of the public, employees, and supply chain; conduct periodic Safety & Environmental Tours and promote safety initiatives.
* Support Accident/Incident Investigations and monitor the effectiveness of the H&S Management System.
* Maintain welfare requirements and manage RAMS with subcontractors.
* Identify, raise, and report risks and hazards; ensure workforce sufficiency and competency.
* Reinforce golden safety rules and manage safety documentation; promote behavioural safety.
* Develop and update resource allocation plans and ensure delivery to programme.
* Check competencies; empower stop-work authority when needed; coordinate with other project activities and internal functions.
* Deliver a quality product, highlight resource issues, and motivate the team through training and performance management.
* Manage subcontractors, including attendance and progress monitoring, providing instruction and support to meet contractual requirements.
* Support procurement plans to ensure materials/resources/supply chain meet deadlines.
* Follow targets/KPIs and ensure audits are undertaken with corrective actions as needed.
* Contribute to workshops on continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Qualities
* Essential: Experience in implementing safe systems of work.
* Experience in managing risks and change processes.
* Good understanding of standard forms of contracts.
* Proficient in commercial/project management communications.
* Effective verbal and written communication with all organisational levels.
* Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and influence across the business.
* Ability to work under pressure with flexibility.
* Solutions-focused problem solving.
* Ability to communicate daily briefs and provide weekly safety updates.
* Clear ability to discuss ideas and plans competently with non-technical stakeholders.
* Effective personal and social skills; awareness and promotion of diversity and inclusion.
* Identify personal development opportunities.
* Desirable: Experience across a variety of project types.
* Proficient in Office 365.
* Holds a current driving license.
* The role holder may hold CSCS and SSSTS or equivalent.
