About The Role
The technician is responsible for carrying out all work to a high standard within this busy workshop facility, ensuring adherence to vehicle maintenance and compliance regulations. The role involves ensuring that all paperwork and Fleet management system is completed timely, accurately and to a high standard, and carrying out repairs and servicing to vehicles as required, while adhering to Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
* Carry out vehicle inspection examinations in line with VOSA procedure and Company policy.
* Test and check that systems and components are safe, secure and working properly.
* Diagnose faults by isolating systems or components that may have caused or potentially cause a problem.
* Repair or replace worn parts ahead of the vehicle’s breakdown or damage.
* Gain authorisation to repair or fit parts as required by Company Procedure.
* Maintain efficiency and accuracy while working.
* Test drive vehicles where permitted and ensure the correct driving license is held.
* Use Personal Protective Equipment as required to ensure safety of yourself and others.
* Complete all paperwork required for the task and return documentation to the workshop controller on completion.
* Assist other technicians with repairs when required and carry out duties as required by the workshop controller.
* Report any health and safety concerns immediately when recognised.
* Complete jobs in full before end of shift or arrange handover, ensuring the vehicle is left in a safe condition with signage present.
* Maintain flexibility to provide cover for customers and workshop requirements.
* Adhere to Company Policies and Procedures including Health and Safety policies.
* Keep the workshop and parking area clean and tidy; ensure vehicles are parked securely with keys kept safe.
* Ensure equipment is safe to use, used only for its designed purpose, and returned to storage after use; report any equipment failures.
* Provide early morning and/or afternoon defect cover on customer sites as required.
* Attend vehicle breakdowns as required (a workshop vehicle/van will be provided).
* Ensure that no vehicle is returned to the customer unless safe to do so.
* Build professional relationships with SFS staff, customers and suppliers.
* Be on standby 24/7 on a weekly basis as required.
* Maintain a flexible approach to duties to service workshops and customer requirements.
* Any reasonable ad-hoc duties as required.
About You
Essential Skills
* A full clean HGV driving license category C is required as a minimum.
* At least 5 years’ technical experience on municipal vehicles (e.g., refuse, sweepers).
* Technical experience on vehicle electrical systems (12V/24V), hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
* Evidence of qualifications and training: apprenticeship, VOSA vehicle inspection course, municipal vehicle manufacturing training.
* Understanding of Health & Safety rules and regulations.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills
* Attention to detail.
* IT skills with knowledge of MS Office.
* Organisation skills with ability to multitask and prioritise deadlines.
