Introduction
AMETEK Airtechnology Group is entering an exciting phase of growth, driven by increasing demand for our specialist thermal management and motion control solutions. To support this expansion, we are seeking a Product Cost Estimator who combines technical expertise with commercial insight. This pivotal role within our Business Development team is responsible for calculating the total cost of products and projects—including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted services—to generate accurate, competitive estimates that ensure profitability and support strategic decision-making. Scope of Role
As a Product Cost Estimator, you will play a key role in supporting Request for Quotes (RFQ) and New Product Bids (NPI) efforts for both existing and new product developments. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role offering variety, visibility, and the opportunity to improve how we operate—making us faster, more accurate, and more competitive. You’ll be both technically and commercially savvy, analytical and have a creative flair for problem-solving. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is driven to streamline processes and deliver results.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with procurement, engineering, and project management teams to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for new and follow-on business.
* Interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications to compile material and labour costs.
* Work closely with the supply chain team to gather material and labour costs and present them, alongside historical pricing for the Business Development Team to prepare quotations.
* Manage the quotation pipeline, ensuring timely and accurate responses to RFQs.
* Proactively prepare cost data in advance of upcoming RFQs, using the annual order forecast to anticipate future requirements.
* Take ownership of the estimating process, developing efficient, repeatable methods for capturing and managing cost data.
* Identify unacceptable cost increases and flag them to the supply chain team to enable timely renegotiation of resource areas that could impact profit margins or competitiveness.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the accuracy, speed, and effectiveness of our estimating processes.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in cost estimating, ideally within aerospace, defence, or a related engineering/manufacturing sector.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and supply chain dynamics.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications with confidence.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cost estimation tools; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
* Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* A proactive, collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and results.
