As a Senior Project Cost Controller at Metlen you will be a key member of the project team, supporting the financial control and performance of large‑scale construction projects. This position will be based in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development, monitoring, and control of project budgets, ensuring alignment with approved financial targets.
* Track and analyze project costs against budget, identifying variances and providing timely insights to support decision‑making.
* Prepare and deliver detailed cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow analyses to Project Management and senior stakeholders.
* Manage Work in Progress (WIP) reporting and ensure accurate application of revenue recognition principles (percentage‑of‑completion).
* Support project teams in budget planning, cost estimation, and financial forecasting activities.
* Identify financial risks related to cost overruns, delays, or deviations and propose mitigation actions.
* Ensure alignment between project schedules and financial planning to support overall project performance.
* Collaborate closely with Finance, Procurement, and Project Management teams to ensure cost efficiency and financial transparency.
* Support accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring proper cost allocation and timely financial flows.
* Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of cost control processes, tools, and reporting frameworks.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
* 5‑7 years of professional experience in cost control, finance, or accounting, ideally within construction or large‑scale project environments.
* Strong knowledge of construction cost control, job costing, and financial reporting practices.
* Hands‑on experience with revenue recognition principles (percentage‑of‑completion) and WIP reporting.
* Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent) and advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
* Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CMA or equivalent are considered an asset.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non‑financial stakeholders.
* Ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced project environment and manage multiple priorities.
