Overview
Senior Pharmacist - Clinical Trials at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH). Based at Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) with travel to Denmark Hill (DH) and South Sites as required.
Interviews for this post were noted for 13 November 2025 at the PRUH site. The role involves leading the pharmacy component of clinical trials, ensuring safe and compliant medicines management, and collaborating with research teams across KCH sites.
Responsibilities
* Lead, develop, deliver and manage clinical trials pharmacy at PRUH (and cross-site to DH and South Sites).
* Provide support to the Specialist Pharmacist in clinical trials to ensure safe and efficient service provision.
* Provide specialist input and advice on medicines management in clinical trials, including safe management of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs).
* Ensure pharmaceutical elements of clinical trials comply with National/European legislation and meet local feasibility and trial set-up deadlines.
* Ensure safe and secure storage and handling of clinical trial medicines at the Trust.
* Lead education and training of pharmacy and other staff in relation to clinical trials.
* Supervise dispensing of clinical trials medicines (IMPs and Non-Investigational Medicinal Products) and ensure safe dispensing at KCH.
* Develop pharmacy services in line with national objectives and Kings Health Partners strategies.
* Establish and maintain processes for measuring service standards and reporting performance.
* Provide advice on pharmaceutical aspects of CTIMPs, ensuring legal/statutory compliance and adherence to Good Clinical Practice.
* Identify and manage risks in the medicines use process relevant to clinical trials.
* Participate in key clinical trials meetings and other clinical meetings as appropriate.
* Supervise monitoring visits from organisations throughout trials.
* Propose changes to working practices to maximise efficiency and safety.
* Propose and implement policies, guidelines and procedures to improve pharmacy service to patients in collaboration with the Associate Chief Pharmacist - Clinical Trials.
* Participate in clinical screening of prescriptions, including clinical trial and chemotherapy regimens.
* Contribute to clinical/ward pharmacy service with highly specialised, evidence-based clinical advice to pharmacy, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals.
* Provide specialist advice on clinical trials for patients and recommendations to principal investigators on pharmaceutical and legal aspects of trial development.
* Manage the Clinical Trial Co-ordinator (PRUH), including training requirements and annual appraisals/one-to-one meetings.
* Work cross-site at DH Clinical Trials Pharmacy (and south sites as required) for service support and development opportunities.
* Ensure specific storage conditions are adhered to, including temperature monitoring and handling excursions appropriately.
* Support personal development and contribute to the development of colleagues.
Person Specification
Essential
Education and Qualifications
* Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (Significant competency assessed and examined professional registration).
* Completion of postgraduate Diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
* Hospital pharmacy experience.
* Experience of supervising others.
* Previous clinical pharmacy experience in a relevant area.
* Experience of practice research or audit.
Skill and Competencies
* Effective written and verbal communication with staff and patients.
* Track record of successful team working.
* Ability to influence junior medical staff.
Desirable
* Good Clinical Practice Certificate.
* Experience in clinical trials.
* Experience in managing staff.
* Clinical/Technical specialisation in Haematology & Oncology.
* Experience with EPIC or alternative electronic prescribing system.
Other Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required; post subject to Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and DBS submission.
* Certificate of Sponsorship: Skilled worker sponsorship considered; UK visa guidance available from UK Visas and Immigration.
* UK registration: Current UK professional registration required.
