Main duties of the job
Interviews will be conducted jointly with GP Care Group and City St Georges University. To be held on week beginning 01/06/26 or 08/06/26.
Health Visitors are the leaders of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme offering a four-level service model with community, universal, targeted and specialist services to children from pre-birth to 5 years old and their families.
You will add value at every contact with a young person and/or family, addressing the main public health needs of the Borough, working closely with the local authorities, GP Practices and other partners to improve outcomes for our children and young people.
Job responsibilities
To provide the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) with a learning environment which will enable the student to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies to take on the role of a qualified SCPHN within a defined pathway.
To gain the knowledge and skills and competence required to exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making in clinical care focusing on four broad areas: Clinical practice, Community Engagement, Clinical practice development, and Leadership in clinical practice.
To demonstrate an understanding of current and emerging national, regional and local healthcare legislation, policies and guidelines as they pertain to the chosen pathway.
To work with the SSSA/supervisor and assessors to develop the skills and competencies to achieve NMC Registration Standards for Specialist Community Practice.
To link and apply theoretical knowledge gained through the university programme to practice situations.
To fulfil the requirements of the Specialist Community Practitioner programme by attending university course dates and practice placement days in accordance with University regulations.
To conduct the responsibilities of a NMC-registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse on a defined pathway, including assessment, care planning, and coordination with external colleagues.
Qualifications
* Qualified Nurse or Midwife, NMC registered.
* Minimum of 1 year post-qualification experience in nursing or midwifery.
* Evidence of study in the past five years at HE at or level 6 and above.
Knowledge
* Demonstrate knowledge of current Child Protection legislation.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
Person Specification
* Registered with the NMC for a minimum period of 1 year prior to application.
* Appointed for the 52-week Level 7 post-graduate diploma, with half time in practice and half with the university.
* Evidence of competency in clinical judgement, discretion and decision-making.
Key result areas
* Develop and build skills in caseload and team leadership and management.
* Work within University regulations pertaining to academic work and student conduct.
* Work within employing organisational policies as they pertain to the relevant clinical setting.
