Job Description - Yard Operative A & B
Introduction
Work in either of two areas of yard operations as follows:
1. Workshop Area (Yard 2)
2. Storage and Spray Bay Area (Yard 1)
Safety
3. Adhere to safety arrangements as briefed
4. Work safely with proper regard for your own and others safety
5. Only work within your level of competence
6. SOS Ltd will provide additional training where required
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
7. Wear all required PPE as stipulated in risk assessments, site signage, or on any plant or machinery
8. Follow instructions from line management and supervision for safety purposes
Cooperation and Collaboration
9. Cooperate and work collaboratively with management, supervision, and peers
10. Represent the company in a positive way on or off SOS Ltd premises
a. Workshop Area - Under supervision of Deputy Yard Supervisor
11. Cleaning cabins and container facilities using low hazard cleaning materials
12. Repair or replacement of fixtures and fittings of cabins or containers
13. Replacement of like-for-like electrical components in cabins or containers
14. Maintain good housekeeping of the yard and workshop area
15. Use jet wash facility to support cleaning tasks
16. Use 240V, 110Vor18V battery-operated power tools, including:Nail gunChop sawVarious drills and bit arrangementsAngle grindersHand-held power saw
17. Work from ladders on short duration tasks (max 30 minutes) where competent
18. Perform activities as tasked by the Supervisor of Quality Control and Outbound Inspection before product release
19. Operate counterbalance forklift truck to load and offload vehicles (where competent)
20. Other reasonable duties as assigned by Yard Supervisor or Deputy Yard Supervisor
b. Storage and Spray Bay Area - Under direct supervision of Yard Supervisor
21. Make good paintwork by spray or roller as appropriate
22. Adhere to the Permit to Work System for spraying/rolling paints in confined spaces or at height
23. Use calor gas burning torch to remove adhesive stickers from containers or cabins
24. Use high-pressure hose tools, including:Spray gunAir gun
25. Use the paint mixer connected to the spray gun
26. Perform stock control, returns quality assessment, and reporting
27. Use jet wash facility
28. Mix thinners with Hempatex High Build Paint to an approximate dilution of 5%
29. Adhere to COSHH risk assessments
30. Follow task-based risk assessments where significant risk is involved
31. Engage in training events for safety, personal and team development
32. Participate in the risk assessment process to support continual improvement
Working at Height
33. Only work at height in cherry pickers or on top of containers/cabins if trained and deemed competent
34. Ladders in use must be fit for purpose and in good repair
35. Conduct pre-use checks on ladders or platforms before work
Ladder Safety Measures:
36. Ladder angle must not be steeper than 4:1 ratio (1 meter base for every 1 meter height)
37. Single or telescopic lean ladders must be footed by an attendant or secured by base plate mat
38. Secure ladders appropriately past the ¾ length position; container corner castings or other appropriate means used
39. Step ladders of appropriate height are valuable for work on container or cabin sides
40. Defective ladders must be taken out of use and reported to Yard Supervisor
