Overview:
A leading technology organisation operating in the defence and public safety sectors is seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join its expanding software engineering function. About the Role:
We're looking for a technically strong, detail-oriented, and collaborative Senior Software Engineer with a broad background in both application and embedded development. You'll play a key role in the full lifecycle of development, including system integration, performance optimisation, and process automation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the development of complex features and project modules
2. Collaborate across teams, including with external stakeholders
3. Support the software manager in planning, estimation, and requirements gathering
4. Design and integrate software with electronic systems and hardware
5. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab)
6. Monitor system performance and troubleshoot technical issues
7. Mentor junior engineers and manage sprint boards
Essential Skills & Experience:
8. 5+ years in application and firmware/embedded software development (C/C++, Python, Rust)
9. Strong hardware/software integration experience
10. Experience with internet and application layer protocols, including security standards
11. Familiarity with both Linux and Windows environments
12. CI/CD expertise (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab)
13. Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile methods
14. Excellent architectural decision-making capabilities
Desirable:
15. GUI design and development
16. Interest or academic knowledge in physics (especially radiation topics)
17. Use of DevOps toolsets
18. Exposure to video and image processing
Education:
19. Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related discipline
Security:
20. Must be eligible for UK Government Security Clearance (BPSS/SC)
