Safety Engineer
Join us as a Safety Engineer to help protect what matters. This role supports our national, industrial and environmental safety commitments through proactive safety management across dedicated SEA product lines and defence projects.
About the Role
This Systems Safety Engineer will manage all safety tasks and activities across multiple product lines and defence projects. The role may be based at Barnstaple, Beckington or Bristol and allows for flexible working. Salary is up to £60,000 depending on experience.
Responsibilities
* Develop Safety Management Plans and Safety Case documentation, including risk identification, hazard log creation and maintenance, evidence gathering and requirements validation.
* Ensure safety practices meet industry, customer, legislative and standards requirements, and that compliance is assessed and met across all applicable products and projects.
* Apply recognised safety methods, technology and tools throughout the product/project lifecycle, including Hazard Identification, Hazard and Risk Analysis, and Risk Management.
* Liaise with internal and external customers throughout the product/project lifecycle and work closely with engineering and management teams.
* Generate and present accurate safety status updates at defined project milestones and represent SEA at key customer safety meetings.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in a similar safety engineering role.
* Experience producing Safety Management Plans, Safety Case documentation and conducting risk identification and hazard assessments.
* Experience maintaining hazard logs, gathering evidence and validating requirements.
* Familiarity with defence contractor safety environments and UK MOD ASEMS, Defence Standards 00‑056 & 00‑055, and Mil Std 882 (advantageous).
* Ideally trained to Ship Safety Management Organisation (SSMO) level or equivalent.
* Highly motivated to integrate safety early in development programmes, engage engineering teams, and achieve shared goals.
* Ability to articulate safety arguments and produce clear, accurate technical documentation within contracted deliverables and timescales.
