Overview

Mental Health Joint Response Vehicle Practitioner role at Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The service provides an immediate comprehensive assessment of a service user in crisis, with a suspected or actual mental health problem, offering assessment, treatment, signposting or referral as appropriate.


Responsibilities

* Respond and assess day-to-day emergency referrals received via NWAS EOC.
* Respond to NWAS graded incidents with an allocated driving paramedic within the allocated response time.
* Undertake timely mental health assessments with service users of all ages presenting in a mental health crisis within the community.
* Be a source of specialist knowledge and advice to professionals at all levels within the community around care and management of service users presenting with primary and secondary mental health needs.
* Be responsible for the development of treatment plans with service users involvement, including autonomous discharge where appropriate. Liaise with appropriate statutory and non-statutory agencies or care providers when developing treatment and discharge plans.
* Assess individuals with a range of complex needs, including organic and functional illness, dementia and illnesses associated with later life; assess individuals with learning disabilities where required.


Service context

Operates 7 days a week in collaboration with Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS); initial shifts will be twilights. The service emphasizes robust and urgent biopsychosocial assessment and safe discharge from the mental health response car, with a focus on enabling early effective discharge within the community.
