Consultant Psychiatrist

We are looking to employ a new Consultant to join our current supportive Consultant body. The post holder will work primarily in the Memory Clinic and the Young Onset Dementia Service. There will be an additional PA supporting the MHSOP Community Mental Health Teams, managing long term conditions alongside a specialist MHSOP pharmacist. A full‑time Specialty Doctor currently works in the Memory Clinic.
The post will be part of the Newcastle / North Tyneside Old Age Consultant rota with SPR cover coordinated by Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post will combine work in the Memory Clinic, the Young Onset Dementia Service, and a smaller component of CMHT work.
Clinical PAs (8.5): 5.5 in the Memory Clinic, 2 in the Young Onset Dementia Service, and 1 supporting MHSOP Community Mental Health Teams.
Responsibilities include providing clinical supervision to a foundation trainee in the Memory Clinic, and opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate education (subject to PA time allocation).
Job responsibilities
Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and clinical area management, as assigned by the Head of Service, Medical Director and Chief Executive.
Lead by example, promote standards, encourage constructive feedback and challenge.
Produce and support solution‑focused decisions based on evidence, recognising the value of multidisciplinary input.
Demonstrate financial awareness and consider the impact of decisions on the team.
Delegate tasks effectively with realistic expectations.
Effectively manage staffing issues, seeking HR advice to ensure compliance with local and national employment policies.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Completed accredited training in old age psychiatry or within 6 months of CCT if Higher Trainee
* Registered or eligible for registration as a specialist in psychiatry on the GMC Specialist Register
* Approved Clinician status and Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983) or equivalent
Experience
* Registered for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Publications or presentations to learned societies on relevant subjects
