Job Description Senior Customs Analyst Derby or Washington (Hybrid) Full Time An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Group Tax & Customs team, with a specific focus on ensuring our Customs tax obligations are met. The Group Tax & Customs team are responsible for managing the Group’s worldwide tax affairs. The role reports to the Head of Customs and responsibilities include supporting the organisation’s import and export activities, ensuring all customs transactions are processed accurately and compliantly in accordance with HMRC requirements, and international trade legislation. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to liaise effectively both internally with Logistics, procurement and other business teams and externally with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will be part of a team of tax professionals and collaborate with tax specialists and other professionals within the global Customs organisation. What you will be doing: As the Senior Customs Analyst, you will ensure adherence to all relevant customs regulations, trade controls, and compliance frameworks: Assist in maintaining comprehensive records and customs documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin. Liaise with internal Logistics compliance team and our appointed customs brokers, hauliers, carriers and relevant government bodies to ensure efficient clearance of goods. Monitor shipment progress and resolve customs-related queries in a timely manner. Support internal and external HMRC audits by providing accurate records and evidence of compliance. Assist with the administration of customs authorisations and duty relief schemes (e.g., Inward Processing, AEO accreditation). Provide guidance to internal teams on customs classifications, duty rates, Incoterms, and trade compliance matters. Contribute to the continuous improvement of customs processes, ensuring efficiency and compliance are maintained. Support wider projects and initiatives as required by the Customs Manager. Provide support to the Customs risk management and control processes to manage compliance risk, ensuring that the team has robust and effective governance, processes and controls in place and is compliant with all relevant laws and regulations. Position qualifications: Recognised Customs qualifications and/or demonstrable recent experience within a Customs or Trade Compliance role. Preferred requirements: Strong knowledge of UK import/export procedures and HMRC customs legislation. Proficiency in customs declaration systems (CDS). Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet strict deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to explain Customs issues to non-tax specialists Experience in customs duty relief schemes and AEO accreditation. A working knowledge of SAP Excellent Excel and analytical skills are essential, Knowledge of data dashboards i.e. PowerBI beneficial A team player with the ability to liaise across multiple jurisdictions, businesses and functions The ability to work independently where required to drive work forward.
