The successful candidate will be based at Glangwili General Hospital and will be required to undertake a wide range of duties appropriate to the post and job description, including receiving and handling samples, entering patient details into the Laboratory's computer system and transporting samples to laboratory areas. They will also act as the first point of contact for patients and nursing/medical staff both face to face and by telephone enquiries.
Responsibilities
* Based at Glangwili General Hospital and undertake a wide range of duties appropriate to the post and job description.
* Receive and handle samples.
* Enter patient details into the Laboratory's computer system.
* Transport samples to laboratory areas.
* Act as first point of contact for patients and nursing/medical staff face to face and by telephone.
Qualifications and Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Keyboard and computer skills.
* Good attention to detail.
* Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently and using initiative.
* Full in-house training will be provided upon commencement under the direction of the Pathology Reception Team Leader.
Welsh language
* The health board supports bilingualism. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. Applications from Welsh speakers are welcome and will not be treated less favourably than English applications.
* The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. The health board offers learning options and support to help meet minimal desirable Welsh language requirements during employment.
Job Details
* Role: Medical Laboratory Assistant (Band 2), Pathology Reception team, Blood Science Department.
* Location: Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.
* Hours: 22.5 hours per week; pattern of Monday, Thursday and Friday 8.45am to 5pm (may change with future service developments).
* Flexibility required; participation on Weekday evening, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday rota (extra remuneration available).
* Interviews will be held on 13/11/2025.
