Restricted to BCHS Palliative Care Service
You will be a key member of the Bedfordshire Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) integrated care system which will involve working with system partners to ensure the delivery of the end of life agenda across the geographical patch.
The post holder will be a specialist resource for professionals, providing professional leadership within the specialty. They will both lead and participate in audit, project work, research, education provision and clinical service development. They will proactively focus on their continual professional development in order to enhance personal practice.
This dynamic and demanding role will build upon clinical and management experience whilst assisting to implement and imbed new care initiatives and to move forward current strategies.
The post offers an excellent opportunity to influence and develop support of patients who have life limiting conditions working at a senior level.
The post holder will be part of the senior management team and take part in the on call rota.
Main duties of the job
This post is a secondment or fixed term contract for one year. The suitable applicant will be a senior nurse currently working within the service with line management experience and significant experience of caring for patients with life limiting illness. The applicant should possess advanced palliative care skills; educated to degree level, with a recognized teaching qualification and proven advanced communication skills. They will be required to manage a team of Specialist Palliative care Nurses who are located across the county and advise other nursing and AHP staff on all aspects of palliative care for patients with advanced disease. They will be required to spend 50% of their time in clinical practice managing a reduced caseload.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
·Creates and maintains a culture of continuous improvement and ensures high quality standards of care are maintained.
·Develops and maintains the specialist palliative care nursing knowledge and skills within the teams.
·Ensures education and training in end of life care is delivered to community nursing teams.
·Works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Nursing and Deputy Director of BCHS to develop and deliver strategic objectives.
·Develop the community service and clinical pathways in conjunction with local Hospice, Commissioners, acute sector and all other partners supporting people requiring palliative, end of life care and bereavement support.

10. Substantial experience of service development and operational management including people management
