Financial Controller - York (office based, 1 day WFH)
Our client is one of the UKs fastest growing online retailers and they are looking to recruit a Financial Controller into their Head Office team.
You might currently be working as a Financial Controller, or as a Finance Manager, looking for the next step in a business where you can make a real impact.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this is a key leadership role within the finance function, where you will deliver accurate and timely financial information, support strategic decision making, and drive positive change across the Group.
Key responsibilities as the Financial Controller
* Prepare accurate and timely month-end and year-end financial, statutory, and management accounts.
* Lead the annual audit process, including consolidated financial information and statutory accounts for all subsidiaries.
* Oversee banking, treasury, and working capital to ensure strong cash management and financial stability.
* Maintain robust control through monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
* Coordinate tax compliance in partnership with external advisors.
* Oversee payroll to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
* Manage customs compliance for international operations.
* Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, utilities, and third-party service providers.
* Lead, develop, and motivate their finance team to deliver high performance and continuous improvement.
* Drive finance projects, including new system implementations, automation, and process optimisation.
* Maintain and evolve financial controls and governance frameworks to support sustainable growth.
What they are looking for
* Fully qualified accountant, ideally ACA/CIMA/ACCA, or QBE with equivalent experience.
* Proven experience leading financial accounting, consolidation, and reporting, ideally in a Plc.
* Strong technical understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP.
* Experience in international accounting and multi-currency reporting.
* Trackrecord of delivering reliable, high-quality financial reporting through effective controls and processes.
* Experience managing and mentoring a finance team.
* Exceptional attention to detail with a hands-on, solutions-focused mindset.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to turn complex data into clear insights.
* Confident user of Excel and financial systems; any systems implementation experience would be an advantage.
