Trust Registrar in Medical SDEC
We require registrar grade Resident Doctors to work in the medical Same Day Emergency Care Medicine Department at Gloucestershire Royal & Cheltenham General Hospital. Posts are not recognised for training but offer experience in general and acute medicine. The posts are for 12 months, with normal working days from 9-5 and occasional extended days up to 11-7. Protected 1 day per month for other interests and a half day per week for non‑clinical work such as QI or audit are provided. Out of hours and weekend work is expected, averaging one long day a week and one weekend every six weeks.
Main Duties
* Provide clinical care for a wide range of conditions, including cardiology, renal medicine, diabetes & endocrinology, respiratory medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, care of the elderly, and stroke.
* Work closely with other specialties, ensuring excellent in‑reach from the aforementioned units.
* Manage undifferentiated medical admissions and run the acute unselected take.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team working and complex discharge planning.
Qualifications
* Full General Medical Council registration.
* MRCP (or equivalent).
* ALS (or equivalent).
* Competence in point‑of‑care ultrasound.
* Peer‑reviewed publications.
Experience
* Proven procedural competence in line with the IMT3 curriculum.
* Independent management of medical admissions.
* Experience of MDT working, including complex discharge planning.
* Independent skills: lumbar puncture, Seldinger chest drains and ascitic drains.
* Experience working in Same Day Emergency Care.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
Essential Management & Administrative Skills
* Familiar with clinical governance.
* Willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership.
* Experience with quality improvement, audit, morbidity and mortality review.
* Experience of service development.
* Aware of current developments within the wider NHS.
