Overview
NG Bailey has a vacancy for a Commissioning Engineer to join us on a nuclear project in Burghfield near Reading. The role is full-time onsite on a 4½ day pattern (8:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday, 8:00–15:00 Friday). It is a fixed-term contract until December 2025, with the possibility of extension or transfer to other projects. A security clearance is required to work on this site; British nationals who have not worked outside the UK in the last 5 years will be considered.
Compensation includes a competitive salary with a generous benefits package, with uplifts and allowances available for working away.
Core responsibilities
* Supervise onsite commissioning activities to ensure safe, compliant, and accurate testing.
* Write and review commissioning procedures and Safe System of Work for activity suitability.
* Prepare and submit commissioning documentation for presentation to the Testing & Commissioning Panel for review and approval.
* Identify and mitigate potentially dangerous occurrences and implement control measures.
* Plan onsite commissioning activities with approved procedures and Safe System of Work, coordinating with other working parties and attending site planning meetings.
* Ensure system and area boundaries are established before testing and co-ordinate with the Authorised Person.
* Organise test equipment and verify the initial state of plant against the commissioning document.
* Deliver pre-start briefings to the working party, including client witnesses, ensuring understanding of testing requirements and roles for a safe, compliant activity.
* Ensure the commissioning document and Safe System of Work are followed by all involved.
* Witness and close out commissioning activities to gain client acceptance.
* Manage temporary commissioning aids, apply, record, monitor, and remove as required.
* Raise commissioning reservations and seek guidance from the commissioning manager or engineering support when issues arise during commissioning.
* Ensure the final state of plant configuration matches the commissioning document or is agreed with the commissioning manager.
* Plan and arrange commissioning activities in line with the master programme and liaise with project managers’ representatives.
* Manage and set to work specialist commissioning contractors.
What we’re looking for
* Previous relevant experience in commissioning roles, preferably within regulated industries, with a Mechanical or Electrical bias.
* A meticulous focus on quality and safety, with emphasis on nuclear safety culture.
* Capability to obtain SC security clearance through the national vetting authority (if not already held).
* CSCS card in relevant field.
