Overview
The role reports to the Regulatory Finance Manager in Divisional Financial Control. The Management Accountant performs general accounting functions and communicates financial position, insight, governance and control within the business. The role mainly supports the Finance Managers and the Divisional Financial Controller on ad hoc tasks. Activities include general ledger and cost accounting responsibilities, journal calculation and processing, GL account reconciliation, and ownership of the period end close to ensure accurate reporting of financial and performance activities.
Responsibilities
* Support the Regulatory Finance Manager by taking the lead on external audit commitments. Review control observations and address them ahead of the next audit; maintain the audit tracker and ensure submissions are on time.
* Develop the monthly regulatory reporting feeding into Management Reporting Packs. Liaise with Central Finance to meet key deadlines. Validate numbers ahead of publication and coordinate with Heads of Finance for Waste/Water to ensure updated commentaries.
* Take ownership of the quarterly cost allocations review for the full division and streamline the end-to-end process.
* Support the Water and Waste Finance Managers with ad hoc tasks.
* Participate in control improvement projects and assist the Divisional Financial Controller.
* Produce and prepare regulatory accounting returns to Ofwat; streamline processes to ensure quality submissions. Coordinate half-year regulatory drafts with the wider team.
* Support compliance with accounting standards and Thames Water control frameworks, communicating with internal stakeholders to ensure data is clean and accurate.
* Respond to ad hoc analytics requests to support Business Partners with cost visibility, business case preparation and investigation of financial performance.

Contract
This is a fixed term contract/secondment for 18 months, with potential extension if the Finance Transformation continues.

Technical
* Knowledge and understanding of IFRS, tax reporting.
* Excellent knowledge of financial statements.
* Demonstrate thorough knowledge of accounting principles, systems, and procedures.
Qualifications
* Accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, CPA, CMA, CHAE or equivalent).
* Systems experience with SAP.
