The role of the Matron in the Emergency Department is to provide highly visible leadership, managerial and professional support on a day-to-day basis to all the nursing staff and ensure the smooth running of the department to achieve the emergency access target.

Main duties of the job
To provide clinical nursing managerial expertise in all aspects of the speciality, ensuring the highest possible standard for nursing care and technical equipment care, with efficient and effective utilisation of resources.
To develop and maintain the department's philosophy of care based on the Trust's mission statement, core objectives and nursing and midwifery and healthcare assistant strategy.

Person Specification
* Current NMC Registration
* Evidence of recent CPD
* Recent experience in Accident and Emergency Care setting
* Experience as a band 7 shift leader in A&E
* Experience of audit, benchmarking standard setting
* Staff management
* Non-medical Independent/supplementary prescribing course
